What is Autism?
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them.
Autism includes a spectrum of conditions, affecting people in different ways and although some people with autism are able to live relatively independent lives, other people may have accompanying learning disabilities and need a lifetime of specialist support. People with autism may also experience over- or under-sensitivity to sounds, touch, tastes, smells, light or colours. They may also have difficulties understanding some of the rules governing social interaction.
The Café on the Corner is a social enterprise created and run by Autism Ventures. We help adults with autism to realise their potential by giving them opportunities to learn new skills in a real working environment and proper social interaction. As a social enterprise all profits are reinvested in our business to help sustain our support for adults with autism.
